Population Dynamics of Two Hyaenidae Species in the Cape Floristic Region
Three of the four hyaenid species once roamed the Cape Floral Kingdom (spotted hyaena, brown hyaena and aardwolf). With landscape transformation, human-induced rapid environmental change (HIREC), and human-hyaena conflict the spotted hyaena was expatriated from the Western Cape Province and only a select few populations of brown hyaena remain.
The hyaenid project aims to record the presence of brown hyaena and aardwolf in the greater Mossel By area, study their utilization of the Cape Floral Kingdom and promote educational activities to minimize human-hyaenid conflict.
If you, or someone you know, live within the area and have either of these species on your property, please contact us as we would love to speak with you.
